Career Profile: Dermatologist #1195
Dermatology is more than acne and warts, according to this medical professional. She treats anyone with skin problems, including newborn babies and the elderly. After completing her undergraduate college degree, this dermatologist spent four years in medical school, three years in a family practice residency and three more years in a dermatology residency. She also spent one year in a pathology residency. Her 15 years of college have helped prepared her to make important medical decisions for her patients.
This native Iowan says she treats the whole patient, which requires strong communication skills. Because the skin sometimes shows signs of internal diseases and conditions, she works with other physicians and specialists on a regular basis.
She spends her days treating patients in the dermatology clinic, performing skin surgeries, writing prescriptions, interpreting slides of skin samples and continues to learn about this medical specialty. She says dermatology is fun because of the variety of patients and conditions she treats everyday.
