Career Profile: Welder #1192
According to this welder, a person can pursue a career in welding right out of high school. The company she works for has an on-the-job training program called “weld school” to certify its welders.
As a welder, she uses many different types of equipment, such as a jig, a grinder and a torch. In order to protect herself on the job she is required to wear a protective coat, hat, goggles and gloves.
Teamwork and communication are very important skills needed in her job, since she is one of several welders working together to assemble the many parts for one machine. She begins her day welding the more difficult areas and saves the easier welding for the end of the day. She enjoys her job and gets a lot of satisfaction in doing quality work.
