Dining Room Manager #1053 - Tape Number: 1053

Career Profile:
Dining Room Manager #1053

After spending most of her life working in her parents' cafe in a rural Iowa town, this food services manager knew she wanted to work in the restaurant business. She completed a hotel and restaurant management program at a nearby community college. During a college internship, she worked for one of Iowa's larger golf and country clubs. She impressed the management there with her organizational skills and her 'people' skills. She was offered the assistant dining room management job upon her graduation. She quickly moved up to the position of manager during the five years with the golf and country club.

Based on her ability to hire good people, coordinate their activities and provide excellent service, she was offered the dining room manager position at one of Iowa's luxury hotels. Her responsibilities have greatly increased in the new position. Currently, she is responsible for assisting and coordinating catering services and other special events. In order to do this, she usually teams with the marketing manager. One of her proudest moments was the night her parents stayed at the hotel and had dinner in her dining room.
