This city girl "met" her first cow when she was 14 years old. From that day on, her goal was to become a large animal veterinarian. After studying veterinary medicine for seven and a half years, in 1976 she was recruited to a small town practice in Iowa. This made her the first female veterinarian in the county!
She now owns the practice and lives on a farm with her family. This veterinarian treats farm animals, pets and some exotic animals. One day she treated 16 different species of animals!
In addition to her veterinary practice, she operates a laboratory business. She and a team of professionals perform caesarean sections on swine and raise the baby pigs in the lab until they're five to twelve weeks old. This process introduces new genetics into an existing herd.
This veterinarian says she loves working with farmers and the way of life she has chosen!
