Today, she owns and manages an elegant bed and breakfast in a small Iowa town. She wanted to return to her roots in the Midwest and began to write a business plan for a bed and breakfast establishment. She planned for about two years before her dream became reality. Before she made the leap to business owner, she practiced creating suppers in her home. She also started a small catering business to augment her day job. This business owner credits 4-H with helping her to develop skills that have helped her as an adult. She recommends membership in similar organizations for students who are searching for ways to enhance their learning experiences in middle and high school.
Career Profile:
This bed and breakfast owner brings a variety of work experiences to her position. Furniture sales, interior design, bookkeeping and property management all contributed to her career. She learned about elegant formal dining and European cuisine during her travels in Europe early in her career. Working for a Victorian house renovator as a property manager gave her the skills, which eventually led her to ownership of a Victorian bed and breakfast.
