This artist grew up on Long Island, New York. She received her graduate degree in Chicago, where she taught the technique of mosaic mural making to "at risk" youths.
As she began to sell her work, many requests came from Iowa, so she decided to move to Des Moines. She has been able to combine her studio work with teaching mosaic mural making in different schools. She says in order to finance a career in art, a steady income or a patron is needed.
This artist not only wants to paint for herself and those who enjoy the aesthetic quality, but she also wants to enrich the community. She believes Des Moines is "a city that's on the move." "I think people have fresh ideas and are willing to look at my work and when you have that kind of acceptance it helps you to create and grow and change yourself," she says.
Her advice for new artists is to get original art pieces out in the public eye. It may involve donating a painting for a charitable cause or a benefit.
