Career Profile: Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic #1034
This director of aircraft maintenance started his career at a young age fixing tractors at his father's farm implement. He has always been curious about aviation, but didn't have the chance to learn much about it growing up in a small Iowa town. He got his chance in the military. Learning to repair both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft led to a year and a half of further training when he left the military.
He started his first job at a private air service in Iowa more than thirty years ago and has been there ever since.
This airplane maintenance mechanic knows the quality of his work could save lives. During a typical week, he performs scheduled maintenance, makes repairs and completes inspections required by the FAA. He inspects the engines, landing gear, instruments, pressurized sections, brakes, valves and air-conditioning systems. He needs to listen closely to the pilots to understand what is wrong with each aircraft.
When he is not working on planes, this native Iowan enjoys tinkering with old cars and is also an avid woodworker.
