Career Profile: Publisher / Executive Editor #1008
This entrepreneur is the editor and publisher of a magazine for the computer industry. He and his wife moved to Iowa to live in a small college community that offered a unique culture. Based on their need to quickly develop some sort of living, they tapped into journalism and publishing.
Their first magazine was an instant success. He discovered a niche market within the computer industry. He addressed the need with his magazine. As editor, he directs and performs editorial activities. With his team of writers, he plans the contents of the magazine and oversees the production.
From time to time, he may need to write and edit the work of his writers and contributing writers. Very little employee turn over occurs in this business, but it is his job to hire, assign and supervise new staff. He also supervises veteran staff.
He is also the publisher of the magazine. A large portion of his time is spent on general administrative responsibilities such as policy development and finance.
