This native Iowan who was between jobs when she was asked to apply for her current position of executive director for the chamber of commerce. She had the necessary skills for the job, such as putting together a program of work and fundraising.
Other skills she says that are a must for this career are organizational skills, time management, money management, phone skills, public speaking skills and understanding parliamentary procedure. She says that "soft skills" such as problem solving are of equal importance and shouldn't be overlooked.
Her main duties include carrying out the policies of the chamber and assisting chamber members, by helping them with marketing, public relations, bookkeeping and accounting. She likes the variety in her job and says that she is "constantly taking off one hat and putting on another."
