Career Profile:
Art Director/Graphic Artist #1183

Born in rural Iowa, this artist grew up loving baseball. He and his brothers played every chance they got. School was enjoyable. He had fun learning about different subjects, especially geography, physics, art and drafting. His teachers said he had a talent for art and drafting. Like his father, he has a knack for building things. Like his mom, when he makes up his mind to do something, he will not give up until he has done it.

When it was time for college, he had a decision to make. Should he concentrate on drafting, art and computers – or try his hand at professional baseball? It was a tough call, but he chose art and computer aided design. Soon he was building Web sites and creating sophisticated computer animation. He also worked on computer special effects for a major motion picture.

Now he is art director for the company that is the top provider of interactive computer programs to the United States military. Working in a state-of-the-art multimedia studio with a staff of 12 other artists, he creates sophisticated training programs. They range from showing soldiers how to safely drive HumVees under blackout conditions to sharpening the skills of military helicopter mechanics.

So you might say he is in the big leagues now and still living in rural Iowa. He still also plays baseball with his brothers every chance he gets.
