Career Profile: Licensed Marital and Family Therapist #1125
This therapist, born and raised in California, knew at an early age that he wanted to help people. After completing high school, he decided to attend a state university in California. There he attained his bachelor’s degree in religion, with a minor in philosophy.
After graduation, he was unsure of his professional direction, but clear on his ultimate goal: to be in business for himself. So he became a painting contractor. After ten years, he decided it was time to do something different and returned to school to get his master’s degree.
This ambitious man then decided to continue his education with the goal of attaining a Ph.D. So he picked up and moved to the Midwest to attend an Iowa university. While working toward his doctorate in Marriage & Family Therapy, he took a job at a center in metro Iowa in the area of family counseling. He says the first year was quite difficult. But he continued to remember why he got into this profession: to help people! He says the rewards have been immeasurable.
