This field biologist works for the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. He enjoys being outdoors and working with people. On the job his time is split between activities requiring 'people' skills and fieldwork.
In a recent activity, a local Pheasants Forever chapter needed assistance in establishing a wildlife preserve. He assisted in the preparation process for the preserve, which required planning and negotiation skills. He also surveyed pieces of land for the project, noting unique natural communities, rare species and significant wildlife. He then prepared and presented his report based on his fieldwork to the local Pheasants Forever chapter.
His activities often include working with other state and federal agencies to protect species of concern. For instance, he is involved in a highway project planned near a wetlands with several protected species that would be disturbed by the project, so he is working with the Iowa Department of Transportation and local concerned citizens.
