Career Profile:
Elementary School Administrator #1164

This elementary school administrator's first job was not in a school. He worked in Iowa for a migrant and seasonal worker program through the United States Department of Labor. This program helped secure health care, education and other services for the workers.

His career in the classroom began in 1979. After teaching elementary students, he completed an administrative internship with a large Iowa school district. At one point, he served as principal of two metropolitan elementary schools at one time!

This bilingual (Spanish/English) administrator says the children keep him coming back to school every day. He describes a career in education as a vocation and a lifetime commitment. He advises young people interested in education administration to seek out cultural experiences and work hard at academics!
