Mechanical Engineer

Plans and designs tools, engines, machines and other mechanical equipment. Designs and develops power-producing machines such as steam and gas turbines, jet and rocket engines and internal combustion engines. Designs and develops power-using machines, such as refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, robots, machine tools, materials handling systems and industrial production equipment. Designs tools needed by other engineers for their work. May specialize in applied mechanics, design engineering, heat transfer, power plant engineering, pressure vessels and piping or underwater technology. Uses computers to record and analyze data. May use computer- aided design systems to produce and analyze designs. Writes technical or research reports. May work in technical sales or administrative jobs.
