Since the age of 9, Rexanne had always thought she wanted to be a veterinarian. She loved animals and she loved taking care of stray or sick cats, dogs, snakes and birds. At the age of 14 she visited a dairy farm and was very excited to meet her first cow. From that day on, her goal was to become a large animal veterinarian.
Today, Rexanne owns her own veterinary practice and cares for pets, livestock and even some exotic animals. Once she treated 16 different species of animals in one day! Like most veterinarians, her job duties focus on treating sick or injured animals and vaccinating healthy animals to prevent disease.
Since some of the animals Rexanne treats can weigh in excess of 1,000 pounds, she must always remain alert for her safety and the safety of the animals. Other challenges of this job can include maintaining stamina throughout long work days and managing the business end of the practice.
