Describe a typical "challenge" encountered in your work:
I have a budget that must be adhered to when purchasing product for my company. These investments must be well thought out in terms of delivery, marketing, price, and placement on the selling floor. I must make these investments in order to satisfy the customer and to offer them style and quality garments with the dollars allocated.
Clearly describe what you expect from the students:
You have $250,000 to spend on dress pants for a given month. After reviewing several styles, decide which one(s) to buy. You need to consider the following: 1) Who is the customer? 2) What is the cost of the product? 3) What is the selling price? 4) Is the garment washable? 5) Will this item be advertised? 6) Does the competition have this product? 7) How will the merchandise look on the floor? 8) What will be worn with these pants?
In order to give the teacher some guidance in evaluating the student's project(s); list some tips that may help to assess the student's work:
A) Did the students identify who the customer was? Do we have this customer? B) Did the students identify who/what the competition was? C) Did the students overspend the budget? D) Did the students brainstorm or evaluate which tops will be worn with these pants? E) Did they think through the pricing for these items? F) Did they develop an advertising campaign for the item?
