Describe a typical "challenge" encountered in your work:
Each patient I work with who has undergone an amputation is very different. It is up to me as their prosthetist to decide what type of components to use on the prosthesis. These include the interface against their skin, the material of the socket; a prosthetic foot, how the prosthesis is held on, a knee unit for an above knee patient or specialty devices.

Clearly describe what you expect from the students:
What factors would you, as a practitioner, consider when choosing different types of prosthetic components to fit with a particular patient with an above or below knee amputation?

In order to give the teacher some guidance in evaluating the student's project(s); list some tips that may help to assess the student's work:
The following are areas we consider when determining appropriate parts for prosthesis:
- Patient’s age
- How they lost their limb (diabetes, traumatic, birth defect, poor circulation)
- Where they live - near or far, uneven ground or level
- Their recreation activities – walking, biking, jogging, etc.
- How long they have worn a prostheses
- Level of amputation (above knee, below knee, and longer short limb)
- Their muscle strength and joint range of motion
- The condition of the residual limb (soft, firm, and scars, bony, small, etc.)
- Male or female
