Describe a typical "challenge" encountered in your work:
Mike Mean is arrested for assault on Paula Pain. Paula has some injury to her face and right arm, although the injury is minor and appears to be older than the alleged assault. Paula called the police right after the alleged assault, and told the police that Mike had beaten her up because she wouldn’t let Mike borrow her car. When the police arrested Mike, he was driving Paula’s car. It turns out that Mike’s name is on the car title with Paula’s.

Clearly describe what you expect from the students:
Mike has asked you to represent him in the criminal case. Mike says that Paula started the fight when he told her she couldn’t use the car any more because he was going to sell it. Mike says that Paula tried to keep him from leaving the house, and pushed him against a coffee table, causing it to break. Mike did grab Paula’s arm as she was pushing him, but he says he did not touch her face. He thinks she was in a fight at work and someone else hit her. He doesn’t know whom.

In order to give the teacher some guidance in evaluating the student's project(s); list some tips that may help to assess the student's work:
How did the students resolve the “victim/criminal” issue? Did they look for evidence of the broken table? Did they try to find out who hit Paula at work? Did they look for a list of people Paula works with? Did they try to talk to Paula? Did they look at Paula’s medical bills for the past week? Did anyone have a difficult time representing a man for beating a woman? How does the car title issue play a role? Does it play a role?
