Describe a typical "challenge" encountered in your work:
Your local city council has retained your services as a Landscape Architect to make an assessment of the main community park and prepare plans to add more facilities and features for teens to use.

Clearly describe what you expect from the students:
1) Tour the park and make an assessment of the existing facilities - are they teen friendly? What is the condition of the existing equipment and structures - can they be adapted for different uses? How effective is the existing landscaping - does it provide interest, security, places to gather, etc?
2) Prepare a list of possible items to add to the park i.e. skateboard ramps, shelter, benches, council ring, etc. Consider security, vandalism, safety, accessibility, etc.
3) On a large piece of drawing paper show the existing boundaries of the park, large trees, parking areas and existing facilities. Add the proposed "teen friendly" items to the drawing. Add any other information to the drawing such as sketches or narratives, which would help the city council evaluate your plan.

In order to give the teacher some guidance in evaluating the student's project(s); list some tips that may help to assess the student's work:
· Was the drawing reasonably accurate with respect to dimensions, orientation of existing features, adjacent site influences, etc?
· Did they visit with other teens to get ideas and suggestions?
· Were they concerned about security, vandalism, cost etc?
· Does the final drawing convey the Landscape Architect's ideas. Does it convince you to support the plan?
· Is the drawing neat and legible?
