It is important for a programmer analyst to be able to analyze information and draw conclusions from the data. The following challenge is typical of what this programmer analyst deals with on his job.
Clearly describe what you expect from the students:
There are 10 salespeople across the United States selling washers and dryers to the different stores. They are divided into two regions: West: Salesperson 1 Salesperson 2 Salesperson 3 Salesperson 4 Salesperson 5 East: Salesperson 6 Salesperson 7 Salesperson 8 Salesperson 9 Salesperson 10 Here are sales for each salesperson for 1999 and 1998.

Problems to solve: 1. Which region sold more washers in 1998 and 1999? 2. Which region sold more dryers in 1998 and 1999? 3. How many total washers and dryers did they sell in 1998 and 1999? 4. What is the total difference for each salesperson between 1998 and 1999? Are they selling more washers or dryers this year? 5. Did they sell more washers or dryers last year? 6. Draw a graph to show the total sales for each salesperson for 1999. 7. Looking at the graph, who is the best salesperson in 1999, who is the worst?
In order to give the teacher some guidance in evaluating the student's project(s); list some tips that may help to assess the student's work:
Solutions: 1. In 1998 West Region sold 850 washers and East Region sold 1215 washers. In 1999 West Region sold 1090 washers and East Region sold 1100 washers. 2. In 1998 West Region sold 825 dryers and East Region sold 545 dryers. In 1999 West Region sold 710 dryers and East Region sold 1100 dryers. 3. In 1998 they sold total of 2065 washers and 1370 dryers. In 1999 they sold total of 2190 washers and 1810 dryers. 4. Salesperson 1: 0 Salesperson 2: 50 Salesperson 3: 150 Salesperson 4: 200 Salesperson 5: 25 Salesperson 6: 155 Salesperson 7: 100 Salesperson 8: 275 Salesperson 9: 50 Salesperson 10: 160
Here are sales for each salesperson for 1999 and 1998.
