Describe a typical "challenge" encountered in your work:
The parents of a child want a book removed from the library collection, because they do not approve of its content. They discovered the book when their child checked it out and brought it home.
It is my job to deal with the parents who want the book removed. They are upset. What should I say to them?

Clearly describe what you expect from the students:
Library policy states that a book will not be removed when someone disapproves of its contents unless the library is ordered to remove it after a judiciary proceeding. This policy is for the purpose of protecting the community from censorship. Library policy also says that parents are responsible for their children's library use and may want to monitor what they check out. The policy is based on a belief that in a diverse society there may be many books in the library that disturb some users and that society is made up of individuals who have different values and beliefs. This policy is based on the belief that parents are the people best able to decide what their own children should read.

In order to give the teacher some guidance in evaluating the student's project(s); list some tips that may help to assess the student's work:
Students should brainstorm issues surrounding the following: problem solving, conflict resolution, censorship, First Amendment topics.
