Describe a typical "challenge" encountered in your work:
I am a library director and I need to hire someone to work the public service desk. Employees on the public service desk interact with an average of 2,000 people a week. Library users are all ages and from a variety of racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. Employees at the public service desks are called upon to check-out library materials, issue library cards, answer hundreds of questions about the collection and requests for information and sometimes collect fees for overdue materials and deal with complaints.

Clearly describe what you expect from the students:
I have an employee on staff who would like to have the job and I have several other applicants. The library employee who has applied has a thorough knowledge of the library collection and how it is arranged. She knows about library rules and policies. However, she has never been assigned to the public service desk because she gets very impatient when things are not in order and she often snaps at people if she is busy and does not want to be distracted. The other applicants do not have library experience, but they do meet the educational requirements and they have experience in working in retail or other service industries.
I am not required by any library policy to hire the applicant who already works for the library for this new position. I can hire one of the other applicants, but if I do that the library employee will probably be resentful. What would you do if you were the library director?

In order to give the teacher some guidance in evaluating the student's project(s); list some tips that may help to assess the student's work:
Students should brainstorm issues surrounding the following topics: acting professionally, interacting with others, problem solving, conflict resolution as they apply to this situation.
