Describe a typical "challenge" encountered in your work:
As the general manager of a growing company I am constantly challenged to motivate our employees. In business today, employee motivation is an important issue. Managers that can motivate their employees best, have the greatest chance of success. I always look for new ways to motivate employees whether it is through bonuses, promotions or more job responsibility. Unmotivated employees can be detrimental to an organization.

Clearly describe what you expect from the students:
Most young people think that money or salary is the major motivator for work performance, and to a certain point that may be true. However, volumes of research has been done on this topic and there appear to be many things besides money that motivate people.
Take a minute and write down ten things that you feel motivate workers. Think about someone (mom/dad, brother/sister) you know that has been in the workforce for several years – what do you think motivates him or her to perform to their highest ability? What motivates you – good grades, winning a game, a kind word from a coach or teacher, recognition? Put yourself in a manager’s position, what techniques would you use to motivate others around you?

In order to give the teacher some guidance in evaluating the student's project(s); list some tips that may help to assess the student's work:
Did the students explore non-monetary means of motivation (awards, recognition, promotion)? Did they discuss what they feel are motivators of their family and/or friends? This exercise will force the students to better understand their own motivators. It is important for the students to understand that salary makes up only a portion of overall job satisfaction. If they realize this they will evaluate future job opportunities based on more than just money. It will also give them insight to what motivates future co-workers.
